Perhaps it would scare them off to empty one of these compact fire extinguisher sized pepper spray cans into the water around them?

This is so boring and predictable that the obvious solution put forward by a few of us 3 years or more ago is still not being demanded by sailors. Sailors are simply too sentimental to go on the oceans now and those getting sunk frankly deserve it to save the nice smiley fishes.

A simple cull of the pod would have instantly solved the problem - we all knew this then but won’t go near the same solution that would have been applied to a rogue elephant or tiger.

What's with this particualr Pod? As I understand it they are the only ones attacking boats?

It's a puzzle isn't it. As mentioned, probably more than one pod but same part of the world.

This current sinking may have been terrifying to experience.

Makes you wonder if these aren't man made Captain Nemo piloted type Orcas .

I like the M88 Salute solution but you can't get them in UK, or anything like them.
If you have military contacts thunderflashes work underwater but they're mighty hard to get hold of even in the forces these days.

With little effort one of these Alarm Mine Gun - Poachers Alarm could be mounted on a pole with a cord to trigger it - a 12g blank fired underwater should do the trick.

Would a verry pistol with some flares aimed at the surrounding water help?
No need to hurt the whales. Just persuade them to leave.
Alternatively, are there no detonators that can be dropped into the water? I understand that Seismic activity chases whales away, so whilst I am not suggesting bombs or grenades , surely a small shock could work. Sort of thing that the SAS used in the Iranian embassy seige, but smaller.
