Hi,
As an attempt to get the kids into sailing, I recently purchased for a couple of hundred quid, and old Seawhych 19, 1976 (not sure if thats mk 1 or 2), for a couple of hundred quid.
it had been sat in a field for 10 years, and was very green, but looked sound, and the road trailer was ok, so I thought it would be worth a punt.
Anyway, after alot of elbow grease and cleaning, I put it in the water a few weeks back. I have been shocked at how quick this little boat is. Tides and wind was in my favour, but i did cowes to swanwick in 2 hrs today, and sailed most of the way up the hamble!!!
I was expecting most other boats to whizz past me in the solent, but i actually overttok several 30-35 footers!!! we went to cowes yesterday and 2 adults 2 kids and a cocker spaniel all alept on board!!!
Its cleaned up quite nicely. the carpet that has been used to line the inside and the headlining is tatty and could do with being replaced, and interior cussions could do with being replaced, but generally shes sound.
im gonna join the owners association. the rigging is ok, back stays a bit slack even at max, but she sails very very well!
Any other seawhych owners on here?
James
