Trying not to mention the "A" word this is to do with a Simpson Lawrence Seatiger winch.
I am checking this over and have removed bottom plate to check internals. It is in good condition inside no corrosion. There is a fairly liberal coating of black grease over all parts. There is a small amount of play in the bearings on the mainshaft to gypsy, approx. 2mm movement at end of gypsy.
Two questions:
1. Should body be completely full with grease?
2. Is that amount of bearing play acceptable, I have never noticed it before but have never checked it?
Would prefer not to replace bearings unless needed, as the parts are crazy prices. Thinking that they would carry on some while yet and replace them when showing definite wear, or am I risking other parts internally wearing out prematurely if I ignore them?
Looking forward to wise replies.
