Was talking to a fellow seamaster 815 owner at the weekend in largs marina, we were just discussing the comparisons between boats and one of the things that came up was we both thought that the propeller did not have enough bite in the water/or engine was not powerful enough. If for example we are motoring we only manage 3.5 knots, if we crossly over rev the engine then we can manage to get 4.5knots, but then the increase in revs does not equate to and equal increase in speed. The engine is YSE 8. (there are another two variants)
This now has quite a considerable impact when travelling against the tidal flow and it does not take a big flow to stop us, even if we go again the flow in a places like the kyles of bute it will slow us considerably.
So I was just wondering how many other seamaster 815 owners have fitted bigger props or fitted three bladed ones???? Don’t think that fitting a bigger engine will have a great effect as we are restricted by hull speed, just wondered if a bigger prop will help give us more bite in the situations when we need more bite.
