Sealing in the diesel Part 2

Some of you may recall I asked for advice on how to seal up the inspection hatches in my diesel tank, well now the deed is done.
The original plan to make up removable plates sandwiching together was abandoned when is became obvious that the sealing medium was critical, not easily obtainable and unlikley to be under enough compression to do the job.
Plan B also came unstuck when the self tappers I was using to screw down a stainless steel plate(I tried several different grades of screw ) kept stripping the threads.
I've admitted defeat, called in the professionals and got it welded...

However, next winter I'm going to.....well I dunno...

Wully.

Couldn't the professionals have welded stainless nuts to the rear of the stripped holes?
