Didn't even know the 52 had replaced the 51. Looks like it has various tweaks and upgrades to the inside only. eg Plasma TV. Not sure where the extra lenght is - specs are 15.97m vs 15.82, so 6 inches extra - must be the pulpit rail or something? There cant be any substantial exterior changes becuase the t52 running shot on the website is actually a T51 - it's the same pic they have used for at least 4 years
To be intersted in the 52 you must be buying new. You might want to take care in that case - the 51 has never been a strong seller, sales of used ones are slow. There are loads for sale used, many have been advertised over and over again. You will want a big discount to make financial sense, or buy the boat becuase you love it.
Suggest ask them if they will build you one with toilets that are appropriate to a £4-500k boat, not the standard spec fishing trawler grade ones with bolt heads showing and nice macerator pump nearly invisible *provided*you carefully photograph it at the correct angle from the left hand side.
popper, agree with jfm. I looked at a used t51 recently and the salesman admitted that they are not good sellers, new or secondhand, until they reach a certain price level (£300k in my opinion). So, try for a v large discount and expect a big depreciation hit. Basically, anyone who can afford a new or newish t51/t52 is going to be looking at offerings from builders with more upmarket images (note: I did'nt say better quality) from the likes of Fairline, Sunseeker, Princess, Azimut etc. Have a look at the Sunseeker Manhattan 50 and the Azimut 50, both stunners IMHO and likely to hold their value better
I have a Sealine T-series built 1998 and the build quality is excellent, it isn't showing its age at all. If there are a number of T51's for sale you should be able to get a bargain. I agree other marques appear to be more sought after, but so long as the depreciation occurs before you buy it and not after, then it would be loads of boat for your money. Does appear you might take a bath on buying a new one though.
Very good friend has a T51, nice boat indeed but as others point up depreciation is an issue, scuppered a purchase of a newer bigger boat last year as losses to high to bear in such a short time span when changing marque after just 2 years. Build quality good, usual minor niggles at first, though lovely build quality and finish.
If memory serves hasn't T52 got a slightly different side window shape, more angular??
Only other point made by my mate is that whenever they visit F43, the saloon is more sociable and "usable" than 51, but then 3 good cabins on 51 and permanent dining area too. Have skippered a couple of times handles nicely IMHO with good sociable Flybridge, can't recall what engines but think biggest he could have and she does go like stink for a large girl.. Paul
I wonder how many people buying new T52's were part exchanging their previous Sealine and getting really good money for it in p/x?
I wonder if the second-hand prices reflect what people who are not p/xing up through the range with big amounts offered for current boats would normally be prepared to pay..?
