T 50

Hi
I have had one for 6 months so not yet 100% about the fuel but seems to be around 1 gal per mile, not noticed any difference at higher speed yet, but I need a few more miles to confirm.
As to "foibles" have not found any apart from the flybridge table, which had to be changed, and water seems to hand around by the table and not flow quickly down to the drain.
V quiet, loads of room, and wife loves the galley.
big Aft Cockpit when extended.
Give me a call if you want to talk
cheers
Richard

I'd edit the post to remove the phone number if I were you Richard. It's a public forum and the dreaded bots trawl it for email and phone numbers. Hi Kashurst, yes I did own a T50 for a while in Majorca and then on the Hamble River.
Traded her for a T60 back in 2008.

Anyhow, the fuel consumption on the T50 circa 22 knots was about 1 - 1.1 mpg , anything lower than 19 knots and she would start to become semi displacement.

Handling wise she was brilliant. She can turn very tightly on the plane and the performance feels more like a sports boat than a hefty fly bridge vessel.

Engines are d9 and are quite reliable. Volvo Penta had numerous problems at the outset with drive plates between flywheel and gearbox in bell housing. Rubber cushion in the drive plates would gradually break up. Tell tale sign was small rubber fragments under bell housing!

Other problem with D9 were that Volvo Penta omitted thermostat in oil cooler at build. This caused gearbox oil temp to keep rising and then blow gearbox.

For the vessel she is a great sea boat. Very stable and helping from the fly bridge is superb.
Big flybridge screen keeps wind of face at speed. We had the forward facing arch which was superb. Some other brand owners didn't like that but then they formed an opinion without experience!
The forward facing arch which is the same on my current T60 has many benefits.
Firstly, lights are above your head at night and no glare, and radar immediately above all passengers head. It was also possible to cruise at speed with the Bimini up.

Build quality is superb and very reliable. Everything was accessible including fuel tank lids for cleaning and inspecting tanks.

Would I recommend a T50? Simply yes.

Hi Kashurst - I am the proud owner of a T50 purchased new in May last year.
I absolutely love the boat and the only issue I have had in the electric hob gave up the ghost and had to be replaced.

With regard to fuel consumption I have only done one run where I got some meaningful figures. At the end of September when we had the glorious weather my friend and I set off from the river Orwell and headed to Ramsgate where we refuelled; the next morning we headed round to Brighton at a constant 25/27 knots (depending on tide). When we arrived in Brighton we refuelled ready for the return trip - based on that trip I calculated each engine was burning 83 litres per hour so that's 166 litres per hour so I would say it was more like 1.35 gallons per mile.

Hope this helps - Richard

That sounds right. I think you would need a lot of tide and wind behind you to get 1-1.1mpg in a 50er at low-twenties cruise speed

Def agree with that one jfm, you only have to check the fuel burn rate for the d9 to guess what mpg you will get, although the t50 is a light 50ft er.

thanks for the replies, the fuel burn agrees pretty much with the mby report figures. Before I buy another boat I want to know as much as possible about it. I bought my current boat because its pretty which is not a good decision making guide.
