what I heard is new boat sales is closing, secondhand brokerage, sea school and service will stay, so there will only be brokers or agent at the LBS. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif
Despite being a big Sealine fan, recent actions hint that all is not well in SealineLand.
For a start, you don't sack the MD and replace him with the parent company's former CFO unless something was seriously amiss in the numbers department. Add to this closing the head UK Sales office and turning it into a service depot.
I'm guessing that the success of the S29 and SC29 have distracted attention away from the slight problem that the recent larger launches (T60, T50) might not have gone so well, despite huge amounts of money being thrown at them.
I hope I'm wrong, and that this is just a short term blip and "sort out". Looking forward to the S35 !!!
If their are any blips with Sealine one thing for sure is that Brunswick will set them right. I know they are big business, but they paid alot for the company and they would only want to see it grow and the product improve.
At least with Brunswick behind them Sealine are financially secure - tought to say that about some other UK manufacturers.
I think they are closing all four of the Sealine owned Sales offices, Hamble, Brixham, Spain and Mayorca. Maybe they will just keep the secondhand brokerage just long enough to get rid of the part-ex.s and stock!
I was also told they are cutting the work force on the service depot side.
Amazing just a few years ago they sold hundreds of boats from Hamble a year, were going to form a Sealine Service Centre.
If what I say is true (that Peters will be selling smaller Sealines ony) then they've got a pretty impressive offering. The smaller Sealines S25 / S29 are great and the whole Azimut range is fab.
Think they are just going to use agents to sell Sealines. Just the Sealine owned dealers closing. I think they have half a dozen non owned dealers in the Uk. Be good for them
Strange. Sealine sacking all their directly owned sales outlets and selling wholly thru dealers. Fairline sacking their dealers and selling thru directly owned outlets
I wonder who's right?
Can i very humbly and politely point out that whilst there seems to have been some success with the S29 and SC29 all is not a bed of roses.
One dealer has just had delivery of a stock S29 and its only hull number 18. So since launch at Last LIBS only 18!!! and that isnt sold yet either.
I know of two other forumites who, whilst loving their purchases, are not entirely satisfied with the models. and they are adjusting some design features.
But have to say that yesterdays little run for VP showed she was easily worthy of 37 kts /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
BTW any other owners who would like to get together next year, I have a "sort of promise" from Sealine they would fund moorings for the publicity. All we need is to organise a time and place. PM me with info
Do 'owned' sales people have quite the same motivation, or do 'non-owned' try and sell you something else instead? Which carries the greater filthy lucre quotient?
I think my biggest concern (if I found myself in charge of sales in either one of these two) would be the total control of the brokerage of 'my' brand secondhand market.
You can never totally control the secondhand market for "your" boat, unless you are in cahoots with all the other dealers who agree to return "your" boat to you (or destroy it for an agreed sum). This doesn't happen, so a good source of cheap Sealines is the Princess Dealer, cos they would rather stock Princesses, hence a speedy exit of a Sealine at a reasonable price is what they are after.
The Sealine dealers have the volume, the stock, and the expertise, hence some control, but even this applecart has been upset a bit by Essex Boatyards first doing their own thing, then becoming a Fairline dealer !
I'm sure I was trying to make a point. Now my head hurts /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

They don't necessarily make boats in numerical order. For example one dealer may be allocated boats 1-20 another 21-40.
WRT S29, what's worrying is that boats were available from stock last summer.
37 knots is also nothing to write home about. Targa 30's were doing that 6 years ago.
Besides all that, boats co's make money off the big stuff, not the little stuff.

Didn't mg rover and some other big car companies have a big corporation behind them?
Brunswick may want to change sealine's position in the market to help some of their home grown more profitable brands?
For peoples referance, our orders from Sealine over the last 12 months were similar to the previous 12 months, and new orders follow there normal trend. So if they are in trouble it is a long term problem, covering the last tewnty odd years.
With regard to Brixam sales office closing, i was told that it was due around 5 years ago, just taken a long time to implament.
When Sealine started they had two dealers, these were bought out to suit there marketing in the 80's, they then over the years took on a number of independant dealers. All we see at the moment is a change back to full dealership marketing.
In the case of the S29 they are made in numerical order. On my factory visit they were building Nos 5-10 and they were not allocated to the same dealer.
My hull is No 8. delivered April.
Still only No 18 doesnt suggest very good sales /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif
Bet the Targa 30 didnt have the same fuel consumption 6 years ago as this little beauty /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif
