Sealine S42

As recently posted, I hanker after a Targa 43 sometime soon. However, as a previous owner of Sealine S41, fabulous boat accomodation wise , but with a wayward and sometimes scary hull, does anyone know just how much improvement (if any) the modification to the chines on the S42 made. Does it clear up the S41's tendency to chine ride, and in particular make the boat more driveable/comfortable in any head sea. Be grateful of any comments please.

I owned a Sealine S42 fitted with VP D6 350's on DPH drives for nine years and loved every minute of it. I've never driven the S41 so can't compare the two but I never knowingly experienced chine riding. She didn't like a beam sea much and could be a bit of a handful but then so can any beamy mobo on stern drives. I used her a lot crossing the channel a few times and I made several trips West as far as Falmouth and all points in-between (I'm Solent based) in quite challenging conditions sometimes. She never scared me and always did what I asked of her, she was a brilliant boat. They can't compete with the T43 in terms of ride but they'll beat the T43 for accommodation (but you'll know that having owned a S41). The S43 on shafts might be the way to go for a more planted ride (perhaps more akin to your old S48) but as I said my S42 on outdrives was perfectly adequate and reliable coastal cruiser.

I have a Sealine S42 fitted with Volvo D6 310hp motors and DPH sterndrives. I have never experienced any chine walking or other odd behaviour in the boat and I am perfectly happy with its rough water performance too. The underwater hull shape is noticeably different to that of the earlier S41's and this seems to have addressed the concerns raised over the earlier model.

I had a look at a Targa 43 before buying the S42 - the Targa 43 may have better rough-weather performance, as the motors are mounted much further forward but, for me, the S42 handles rough water perfectly adequately and has much more room both below and in the cockpit, albeit that it doesn't have a tender garage.
