Sealine dump Excel

I suspect it's unlikely that this was a choice for Sealine managment.

However, it will open the door to other big names if they've considered pulling out of Excel and haven't dared be the first to do it.

Given that attendances have fallen every year since it opened I believe (and are now a long way under the level that Earls Court was said to be unviable at, hence the move), it's got to be a case of ever diminishing returns on a huge investment, and now in difficult times.

Be interesting to see whether others decide to follow Sealines lead, whether Sealine were forced into their decision to pull out or not. If a couple more of the "big boys" did, then you can be damn sure most of the smaller companies would feel that the presence/cost was no longer necessary and the show would collapse.

And of course if the new Earls Court show then provided them with a much lower cost alternative, we could even see the whole thing go full circle!

I wonder if Sealine will decide to put a couple of boats into Earls Court show as a low cost alternative?

Makes perfect sense to me. LIBS is far too close to Dusseldorf and is pathetic in comparison. It's a nonsense anyway to have 3 (if you count Earls Ct) boatshows for one market. Excel is in the wrong place anyway and the exhibitors hate it for it's location and high cost. I predict in 10yrs time there will only be one UK boat show and that will be SIBS

Good point but also add, for us we can have five boats at Dusseldorf for the price of three at Excel, why on earth would we pay those prices and all the hassle factor for a tiny show compared to Dusseldorf. For our genuine clients we can fly them all out to Dusseldorf, see the entire 8 boat range, put them up in Five star accommodation, a very posh evening show party, flash car transfers etc and still have change. So guess you can strike another builder off the Excel list !

Maybe LIBS and the rest of the UK exhibition industry will get the message then. My manufacturers exhibit all over the world and they tell me that the UK is the most expensive place in the world to exhibit in terms of the cost of the space and all the ancillary expenses. Rip off Britain strikes again
For anyone that hasn't been to the Dusseldorf show, it's loads better than LIBS but you need at least 2 days to do it all

My guess is that Brunswick in the US, where the leisure boat market makes the UK looks positively bouyant, have told Sealine in no uncertain terms they need to stand on their own two feet or sink. Sealine will have done their sums and figured that LIBS is such a money wasting exercise it simply can't be maintined.

No one I know liked the venue anyway.
The downturn is inevitable, but while I agree that dropping your profile down at this time is not the right marketing strategy.
The budget has got to be reinvested it in a more rationalised way.....
As for the rest they will follow to a greater or lesser extent

I spoke to someone in the trade and the space has been snapped up already. plus the big boys are taking more space!

They have only sold enough space to fill 3/4 of one hall I was told today.

Were Sealine at all four shows..? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Not a new thing, back in the 1990's Tom would not do the NEC on cost grounds, SIB's was the main working show, EC was more meet the customers.
At this time Kidderminster was producing 40 + boats a month with staff levels at about the same as the new reduced level, and around 80% of the boats were export.

Surly it makes sense to build sealines in the factory in the states along side Bayliners.

Alright they would loose some of the 'British Built' cred but does that really stand for much ?

Do Sealine owners care if they are made in England, USA or Mexico ?

Bayliner and Sealine can then share boat show stands.

I have always found the Boat Shows to be an irritant, when you need something, the marine trade is effectively closed for two weeks like Christmas shut down only the shows happen several times a year while the staff clear off to play at the show.
Only time I go to the shows is when I have to meet the staff who should be at work !

The exhibitors falsify boat sale volumes by selling boats before and getting clients to turn up at the show to sign for an extra discount, the sale was already made, away from the show where the discounts are more flexible because the staff have more time to fine tune quotes and look at Pt ex deals.
