We have seen a Sealine 365 Sprotsbridge and are toying with the idea of a change of pace from our Broom Ocean 37. We were impressed with the layout of the Sealine and wondered if anyone knows much about them - good or bad.

The one we have seen has twin 200hp engines, which strike me as being a bit small for a 40 foot boat, particulary as some examples have three engines. Top speed cited as 25 knots and cruising at 20 knots. Are the engines big enough??

I have the S37 with two 230hp units which push it along well and the hulls are very similar. The 200 hp is a little under powered so getting up on the plane may require using the trim tabs but after that it should be ok. I think as long as you keep the hull clean and the props in good condition you will have lots of fun with it.
There were half a dozen made with 3 engines, I believe, but were not popular.

I had the AD41's (200 hp) on an S37 and it didn't feel underpowered, and had max speed 29 knots and cruised at 24/25. These engines are also quiter 'cos they don't have the whiney turbo.

The 365 is a much bigger boat that the S37, much bigger.

The 365 is measured "old school", ie to the transom, not to the end of the bathing platform. It is also much higher, wider and generally more bulky. It has much more accomodation than the S37, two heads for a start, decent headroom, much bigger galley, bigger saloon, bigger cabins and bigger cockpit. it is a 40ft+ boat in current terms.

I've driven one with twin AQAD 41 200hp diesels and it went ok, no performance boat, but low to mid 20 knot cruise, mid to high 20's flat out.

Great fun berthing in a crosswind though, due to long boat, very high topsides and outdrives.

Triple engined one widely reckoned to be a waste of time as extra weight and drag of third engine/drive virtually cancels out any power gain, plus much more fuel, extra maintenance etc.

I'd say go for the twin engined one. It'll go ok and has stacks of room. Just don't expect to keep up with a V40 (or a S37) and make sure it's got a powerful bow thruster!!

Poster on here called 'tripleace' had a Sealine 365 on the Thames a year or two back although I think he sold it. Do a search on tripleace and he should pop up.

hey Greg...if you're getting itchy feet again does this mean I should be thinking about moving on from the Pedro?

A friend of ours had one and came on several longish trips alongside our S37 - he had no problems keeping up with us at our 24 knots cruise speed, and were quite adequate, though of course no greyhound. He had to have the have the boat lifted in Guernsey when ropes tangled round, and wrecked an outdrive, and the hoist showed something like 9 tons weight with the clutter that had accumulated over several years. The AD41's were totally relible over the 6 years he had the boat, with well over 1000 hours on the clock. A nice, simple, unstressed unit I believe.

Have seen these boats and the size is great but have heard reports of diire handling and very poor acceleration and low top speed. These engines are the turbo aftercooled ones and although good will not shine to there best in this size boat and will need to be thrashed to get anywhere.

with a full load onboad aswell it might even be very dificult if not impossible to get it to plane easily and it will eat fuel.

Stick with the broom and get there eventually without the struggle! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Could you bear to be parted from your 'little ship' though??
Not sure I could bear to see our Ocean go - great boat. Did like the Sealine though... /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Re: Sealine 365 Sports bridge

I have seen at least two triple engined models on the market on the internet in the last day or so.

Yes Triple Ace was at Hamble, she's now at Port Solent.. having a refit. Keeping the 3 engines, since she was the first one..

Glad to know she is still going, one that I spent many hours on when she was new.
If you need any help or info on the swtich gear, battery charging drop us a PM.
