Anybody used Seajet 033 self polishing antifoul? If so what do you think in terms of
ease of application
how clean did it keep your boat.

with the prices of micron going up and up I am thinking of trying seajet.

all input welcome either via the board or privately

thanks

Pete

I used Seajet 033 last season. Based on the upper Clyde on a swinging mooring I was very impressed with the results and can put it on a par with Blakes. Only a slight amount of weed which easily washed off at the waterline maybe twice during the season and when the boat came out of the water after 6 months a brown slime which was power-hosed off.

Quite a thin looking AF but easy to apply, used the whole 2.5 litres on my Jeanneau 30'

Not used it but seem to remember YM did a report on antifouls about a year ago and this stuff came out quite well. Try doing an article search.

Other point to make is the cost of Antifoul paint in the context of the whole business of getting it on the boat. If you do self application on a drying mooring then, other than the "cost" of your time, the paint is the only expense. On the other hand if you pay for the boat to be hauled out, antifouled and then put back in, the cost of the paint is relatively smaller and buying a good quality antifoul that you know works for you would seem to be a good decision.

Thanks, I have been using International Cruiser and latterly Micron since 1986 but with prices the way they are and over the years the boat has grown, so I thought time to try something else.

It came out as 'best all round product' in the test last year. I used Micron in the Hamble and spent the season scrubbing. Seajet have a cheaper version (037 coastal) available as well but i have no experience or feedback on it.

cheers and happy new year

I used Seajet 033 last year on my Ufo 31,and found it as good as anything I've used for years, including Micron, Blakes & Flag.I did not scrub until lateSept and apart from slight slime the bootom was clean, except where the yard had touched up the cradle pad areas on launching with a different paint. Those areas had thick weed and barnacles.I shall be using it again.

I emailed Seajet about International's products and the reply I got was
'Compatibility of SEAJET 033 SHOGUN is no problem. A good high pressuren wash down followed by one or two coats of SEAJET. If you read International Paint's literature, for overcoating Micron CSC with itself or other products, they recommend a wet sand of the current surface before the final wash down. This is a good idea to ensure perfect adhesion'.

Their website can be found at www.seajetpaint.com

I will be giving it a try this season as it is considerable cheaper than Internationals offering. I have been using International's paints since 1986 so I will see what its like.

Yes - that URL worked. The boat is currently in Chrichester Marina for the winter, normally at Hayling ISland Sailing Club, - however next year we are having a year off from the Solent and basing ourselves in Plymouth - who knows where next if I didn't have to work!

OK it could be interesting to see how you get on in Plymouth vs me in Gosport.
