Does anyone have any more information about the 'serious defect'? What exactly is wrong with these items?
***************************************************
Have to make comparisons over a coffee as mine were old stock and don t have the problem...Wonder if your top up is the same as mine????
I called them yesterday and they told me to blow up the jacket orally and if it held pressure overnight, then it was OK. Fortunately, it did! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I've just checked and I have one of the offending jackets........I just tried phoning Seago to find out more, and after the phone being engaged for 30 mins I managed to get a ringing phone, but no answer.......... /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif
If anyone has any more info about the fault I would be interested in hearing more about it........thanks.
BTW, Huffin, I was always told not to manually (orally) blow up the lifejacket to test it as this introduces moisture into the bladder which can cause it do deteriorate over time......try to use a bike / car pump maybe.

Re: Seago Lifejackets- Mailspeed Charter LJs included- FOR INFO
I have just spotted a recall notice on the Mailspeed site that states their Charter lifejackets are subject to the same recall as the Seago jackets- presumably same LJ but rebranded. Glad I saw it as I have 2 Charter LJs purchased in 2006 and until now had no idea they were potentially subject to the Seago recall. All other details are the same- so affected date of manuf batches IV/05, I/06-IV/06 &I/07 inclusive, returns to Seago Yachting.
Sent ours back today. When I called this morning the receptionist said they would check the jackets and if they were faulty they would replace, if not they would service the ones we sent and return them.
However, when we posted them (3 of) the postage came to £20 - so I emailed them asking if they would consider a contribution towards postage - I got a call back within 15 minutes from the recall manager saying they would replace the jackets with brand new ones, and send crotch straps with the replacements. As such they considered they were compensating postage costs as most people didn't have crotch straps.
Apparently they will do a 1 day turnaround, so stuff posted on Monday will be received and tested on Tuesday, despatched on Wednesday for a Thursday receipt .... we'll see!
I rang the no. on the recall that invites questions. An answering machine refers you to the website but provides no means to ask questions, so I rang the other no on the same notice.
There I established that they can be collected and delivered from a chandlery ( not necessarily where it was bought from)..
In my case thas was Force 4 Poole, yet I bought them at SIBS.
They say they will collect from F4 Tuesday and return Friday ( at least in my case.
there is no mention of such an option on the notice so some are suffering postrage for no reason. My LJ's already have croitchstraps they were part of the bundle.

I spoke to Seago a few days ago and asked about the problem. Seems that after something like 24hours inflation some can start to deflate. So if it's not the general material or the seams then it's got to be the top up - maybe the valve itself or where the top up tube is fitted to the jacket. Gave them my serial numbers (boat is not in UK) and they said they would call me back and advise - still waiting for their call /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif
I asked them today if they wanted serial numbers and they said they couldn't tell from serial numbers - they just wanted everything in the batches noted sending back. They didn't indicate what the problem was, but said they could do a 24 hr turn around?
