I had a mini seacourse which came with the Halcyon 27 I used to own (sold at the beginning of this year). When I bought the boat it was working but the switches were somewhat corroded so I took it apart and bought new switches and fitted them all at a cost of around a few quid. Whilst I owned the boat it worked very well so long as there was enough wiggly amps in the batteries to power the thing. I mainly used it when motoring.
I've no idea how old it may have been but it came with a handbook which showed a picture of the manufacturers premises with Ford anglias and the like parked out front!!!

I have some experience of the old Seacourse, not the Mini Seacourse, from pre yellow plastic case era.

Very ruggedly built, slow in operation, case not airtight so effects of salty air ingress could now be a problem. We had a persistent problem with a leaky compass, which we topped up frequently. All the controls were replaced at one time together with other electronic repairs.

Frankly if you've been given it give it a try but don't spend too much time or money on it. Great as it was in its day modern ones are technically superior.
