Sea Trial

Take a handheld GPS, a torch and an experienced mechanic
Push the mechanic into the engine bay and tell him not to come up again until the end of the sea trial with a report
Make sure the engines pull their max specified RPM and use the GPS to note the max speed. Check against manufacturers claims
Check you can see from both helms at speed and the seats are comfy
Check every single item on the boat for satisfactory operation
At the end of the sea trial check the engines minutely for oil and water leaks
Poke your nose into every single locker and under every single hatch looking for leaks, damage etc
Take some piccies so you have a record of what equipment is on the boat
Even if you like the boat tell the broker its crap
Do not make an offer straightaway. Go home and think about it

Go have a look and do your sea trial and concentrate on engines, performance and handling. Then when back onshore have a good look around a make some notes and go home. then go back again after review of notes and repeat this a few times till you think you have it covered.
at the end of the day you pays your money........etc etc

Excellent advice, except, maybe one small thing. Better to get the broker on your side by complimenting him on something or another without committing. It is fear of losing a sale that will motivate the seller and get your offer accepted in the end. So position the whole thing as that it is one of a few boats you are looking at to buy fairly soon and that your purchase is easy and uncomplicated whilst sliding in your price position. You will then be able to judge how keen they are to sell it by their response. Good luck.

If oyur buying through Peters be prepared to be misled, not have your calls returned and generally be let down all the way through the buying experience.
