Sea Trial tomorrow

Well guys - thanks for all your words of advice. The Great Escape looks like she'll be ours within the next few days, gulp! I'm not sure if I'm concerned (too late now anyway!) about the low engine hours, 34, since she was new in 2008. She's been serviced twice.

It's easy to get starry eyed as Searush hinted but the freezing Southampton air certainly focussed our attentions! I'm getting her lorried back home when I've got a berth secured, then we've got a shed load of electrics to fit and the engines to service and then, hopefully a fun season of boating.

Glad you had a good day. I hope she serves you well and you have many happy times on board.

Perhaps we haven't got to the stage of checking knackered common rail diesels so are starry eyed about their wonderfulness. They still have pistons going up and down sealed with rings etc. etc. No matter what the electronic brain says if the mechanical parts are knackered you will know about it!

Oh dear in the midst of new owners euphoria the Luddites are never far away............

Pictures or stories will do!

Tom

Oops, sorry Tom - I didn't reply to your pm. Thanks for your kind words and offer of a berth. I'm currently waiting for the peeps at Ramsgate to get back to me.

Worry not folks, I'll be boring the bejesus out of you all all too soon with pics and tales of our various boaty misdemeanours!

If anyone's interested, The Great Escape looks like this.

This is her lower helm into which we're fitting one of Raymarine's new e12 touchscreen plotters, an autopilot control, and of course a VHF.

And this is the upstairs helm, into which we're hoping to squeeze an e9 to compliment the e12 below.

While I've got your attention forumites, the only place I can find the HIN number is on an ally plate glued to a bulkhead in the engine compartment. Is this normal - it seems rather an ephemeral affair. I'd have thought it would have been engraved or cast into the grp somewhere. Perhaps that's French boats for you.

One final thing, I'm hoping to get my mits on a forum burgee. I pm'd Hadyn (HLB) and he advised me that Full Circle had (or is going to) take over distribution duties, but was waiting for confirmation. Anyone else got a bare flagpole in need of decoration?

Looks like there is no chart plotter yet unless you have a single just above the lower helm I spose that I can't see. A nice Garmin 8 or 10 should fit nicely on the FB with a mathcing 12 down below :D All in she looks very smart. We have her smaller sister, although a few years older - great all round boat.

A P32 was my original idea but our old boat had a pair of forward facing seats in addition to the helm, which we liked, and I felt the P32's double helm seat was a bit pinched. Plus we wanted a boat that was a tad larger, rather than smaller than our old boat.

There's nowt fitted yet - this is the route we're going. In a way it's handy that there's no kit on board so we get to choose our toys - and not have to put up with that which the previous owner fitted!

I see the Raymarine can connect to an Ipad, does this mean all functions can be used from the Ipad? If yes could you not just fit one of the Raymarines at say the fb helm and then use the ipad as a remote at the other helm?

What, and not have myself the promised 12" screen! Interesting thought though. I just had a look at the Raymarine brochure but can't find anything about this. Not sure about securing the iPad in a usable position on board either.

You are right two at the lower helm on the P32 is er...cozy! but most of the time we go from upstairs which has two seats like yours. We looked at the P36 and there is definitely more room, no question. Having now owned the 32, the galley design particularly, in the 36 is more useful. But, we went for the smaller one in the end mainly due to the price but also because the engines are the same power (or were then - KAD300s) and the 32 felt livelier and more responsive "more like" (i use this phrase reservedly!) our previous sports boats.

Anyway, they are great boats and good at Sea. For the cost in comparison to some others, they represent good value for money IMO, though you will spot how/why in some areas as you get know her better.
