Hi All,
Sea Start only offer assistance on the South Coast it seems. Is there another operator offering assistance/tow on the East Coast, or or one offering East and South Coast assistance?

Thanks!

TBH Seastart is fairly new and judging by the rapid increase in fees, is either doing massively well at attracting customers or needs to up the fees from those it has onboard, in order to make a profit. Pure speculation but what I once paid £90 for is nearly 3x that now. I only bought it because I needed help with a rope around the prop and as this was on the mooring, I would not have called for anything except a commercial service. They did a fine job and I had no quibble with paying for a call-out and becoming a member too. That seemed a fair deal. I might have kept it up had it not increased so much.

Been running since 1994? That seems a reasonable stab and not really new.
I joined last spring as had a new boat with some unknowns on the engine side. Cost £150. Actually had a call out as for the first time in about 40+ years of sailing had a rope round the prop. Really helpful in sorting it out.

Wow 1994 as you say, a good run so far and long may it continue.

Unfortunately we have a bit of a problem in the UK in that RNLI are almost a complete monopoly. Although their official policy is they aren’t a breakdown service, they do “rescue” broken down boats to prevent further issues developing. This makes it almost impossible to offer a commercially viable operation outside of places like the Solent. Given that’s the case, join RNLI and contribute to the service that is available in the area, they often enjoy the practice anyway.
