Sea panther Watermota

Need parts head gasket pistons etc for this Ford Cortina Engine!! Is there only Stepenson Marine!!! Its like going back in time working on this even the engine number is in Roman numeralls. Do I need to get it carbon dated first

Faced with a similar problem when i purchased my Nicholson 32 3 years ago. Started off by spending money on getting the Sea Panther working, gave up when the bill got to £1000 and the engine still wasnt working properly. Ended up getting Stephenson Marine to install a new Beta engine, never looked back-with the benefit of hindsight this was the right choice. Whatever you spend on your old watermota it will never be enough. If you want an engine you can rely on when you need it ditch the old sea panther and buy a Beta.

I have had a Sea Panther in Avalon since I bought her some 15 years ago. In that time I've spent a lot of money keeping the thing running and although it's generally been OK I've never really trusted it. Anyway on Sunday I went to the boat show and ordered a new engine (Nannidiesel).

If you want a complete, working, Sea Panther you can have mine. But you'll have to remove it from the boat which is on the hard in Poole in the next couple of weeks. It comes with manuals, a few spares and a J type gearbox. Send me a PM if interested.

If not I'll probably put it on Ebay.

We used to have one on our former boat. The next owner replaced it first thing. Must admit though: it never let us down!

I have had a Watermota Sea Panther fitted to my Westerly for nigh on 35 years and it never misses a beat. It was overhauled some 200 hours ago but is still going strong. The only thing that ever let me down was a false reading on the temperature gauge (VDO) and you cannot blame the Sea Panther on that. I would take this engine anywhere.

Hi I have just bought a Nicholson 35 and the engine seems to run sweet! The only issue I can see is the temp gauge reads high to a point that I turn it off as I worry of damaging the engine. It seems to pump water well and I don’t seem to have steam coming out the outlet. My question would be how do I know if it’s a dodgy reading or not ?? Any help advice welcome

Sheridan Marine.
Many of these engines were fitted to Freeman boats, Sheridan Marine specialise in keeping these boats and engines going. Great service a font of knowledge.

Get a non contact infrared thermometer to check the temperature of various parts of the engine. Usually under £10 from various sources.
