Scuttlebutt's infamous annual x-channel cruise

Re: Scuttlebutt\'s infamous annual x-channel cruise

I, and SWMBO definitely keen [as crew] - preferably for 25th September. First October weekend also OK, I think, but later one looks like it might be clashing with half term [might be wrong - I'm never told these things!]

Being paranoid simply means - having all the facts.

Cripes

As I count it, that's 35 'butters expressed an interest so far, making no allowances for SWMBOs, cabin boys, etc.

Of which 18 seem to be boat owners prepared to risk their vessel on the high seas.

Not too much agrrement on dates, though. Of those who've expressed an preference, 14 are OK for Sept, 12 for 1st Oct date, 10 for 2nd October date and 14 have kept schtum on dates.

Given that we can expect a few more from those on hols, away on biz, or doing Cork Week, we could be looking at quite a party.

Mine's a creme de menthe, with a cherry.

Re: Scuttlebutt\'s infamous annual x-channel cruise

I think we could be there.

Assuming that my first crossing goes well in August.

Will do in our boat and not sure of space for others just yet.

Any dates are OK at the moment.....But things change with time of course. The sooner the date is nailed the sooner I can book it.

Would it be better to have an early date, with a later date in reserve if the weather gods screw us?

Cheers

Wayne

Re: Scuttlebutt\'s infamous annual x-channel cruise

I'd certainly be interested if it's one of the October dates. Always wanted to sail in one of those standy-up things!

Can't make September, I'm running a sailing course round the Menai Straits.

Re: Scuttlebutt\'s infamous annual x-channel cruise

Now that new sails have been installed, testing them next weekend, I would like to finish what I started last year [and Failed .... torn sail etc]. I'll just have to hope the weekend chosen will fit with my diary.May have a couple of berths available.
PS. Does 25th Sept, not overlap Southampton Boat Show? I haven't checked, but must be close.

westerly departure

will join the fun from plymouth (if it's not going to be wet or rough). plenty of berths available.

Re: Cripes

I might well be tempted - SWMBO's back in horspittle - so life is a little chaotic at the moment, and I may have used up all my credits, ensuring that Cowes week goes ahead - however if it can be engineered I'm on. I do have concerns that we dont have any way to warm up Fray Bentos products - except by friction if we tow them.

Re: Cripes

Have found that an extremely effective way to warm up the old FB is to clamp them between the thighs of a dusky maiden/dark eyed lothario*.

You' d of course be very welcome, and you might set a new solent/chbg record in the process. You should be aware, though, that in the spirit of the Scuttlebut cruise, setting one spinnaker would be regarded as a bit flash, so setting all six would definitely be 'de trop'.

*Delete as applicable, depending on personal preference.

Doesn't the keel pump get quite hot?

<hr width=100% size=1>my opinion is complete rubbish, probably.

Ken
Are you going to sort out the votes for dates from this bedraggled thread?

Re: Cripes

Cant carry all 6 in one race! Only rated for 4, and the Skandia is a clone of an existing (2A).

I'm on for records - but only if the wind serves- upwind X channel would be very tiring, and one must be in top order for FiFi and friends ... and I'd have to leg it back to Jersey on Sunday, so a decent forecast would be a must.

Re: Cripes

Not on a cross channel I suspect! Tacking up the Island shore against a foul tide might be another matter, mind you.

Having said that - I must check who things are going at HYS or it could all be rather academic!

Re: Scuttlebutt\'s infamous annual x-channel cruise

I'd LOVE to meet up with everyone - I came along for the first time last year(and enjoyed my garlic) - its a GREAT event !!

My vote would be for the 25th Sept - I can definitely make that date - others are less likely

bye for now !!
