Sorry, but I have never heard so much right-wing kneejerk claptrap in my life.

I hate threads like this - can't think what prompted me to contribute. Kim, I think you should ban politics.

I do however apologise for confusing Mr. Pantsdown with that nice Mr. Kennedy - who by the way would probably tax you all more than New Labour, especially rich yachties.

No one has said who they would vote for. I'm sorry people, but there WILL be a government, and it certainly won't be a no-tax kick out johnny foreigner scrap the welfare state red diesel guzzler's paradise whoever gets in - the British voting public aren't that daft.

At least we have a coherent credible opposition in Scotland to vote for should we so desire . . . (dons tin helmet and ducks behind Hadrian's Wall)

Not for much longer though. As the current mob are currently passing a bill to make any demonstration within 1 mile of westminster illegal. Real defense of freedom of speech that!
I quite agree with the previous post that the politicos work for Us not the other way around. The local councils are absolutely the worst for this. My local town (Chelmsford) is dying a death as the local council seem to think that they own the town and I should fit in around their wishes. I vote with my feet - I go shopping elsewhere where I can park for free and don't get 80 quid parking tickets for pulling over to use my phone (yes really!).
[rant mode]
As for not being any alternatives - what planet are you on? If G Brown gets back in we'll all be bankrupt in a year - Remember this mob were not actually elected per se, they benefited from an "Anyone but Major" protest vote - so how come the same principle cannot apply again? On the basis that they are all a bunch of W****ers I would rather have a Chancellor who actually understands that the country is run by industry, the private sector wealth creators and the 'middle class', and not the current moron who actually seems to go out of his way to penalise these three categories.

The big problem is that politicians are basically lazy people with very little vision outside their own salaries. Who else can Gordy Frown hit if it is not those who are actually creating wealth/employment? Sure as eggs is eggs, he won't hit his peer group (might go for the Peers!!), and equally will not go after the "Economic migrants" who are flooding into the country virtually unchecked.

You are right...would the last person leaving please turn out the lights!

I predict a major game of musical chairs and fumbling in the dark for the lightswitch as the entire population of Italy moves the UK, the French into Germany (now that would be a change!) and the Spanish to the Netherlands or, who knows?, Poland for a bit of novelty! Change the language and everyone's moaning the same.

Re: Scuttlebutting safe................BLiar\'s taken up sailing.

The other man's grass is always greener; I sometimes think that I'm the only person who likes living in the UK. That doesn't stop me from wishing I were somewhere warmer and sunnier than here, particularly at this time of the year, but for all its faults, I love England and I prefer living here to being in France (higher taxation) Germany (ditto, plus dodgy economy) Italy (Mad right-wing Prime Minister, plus dodgy economy, institutional chaos and endemic corruption) Spain (too hot; full of Oikish tourists from Northern Europe) and Wales (too many sheep). I even think Tony Blair is broadly OK (Iraq, admittedly, a spectacular own goal), and that Gordon Brown is the most competent Chancellor of the last 50 years. Plainly, this makes me very odd.

To contribute to the sum total of human happiness, here is an inspiring picture of the Great Leader, with a firm hand on the helm of the ship of state.

Bit of a "conservative" choice of boat don't you think?

By the way, surely more publicity for sailing is good, whether it was done as a cynical PR exercise for the PM or because he just wanted to go for a sail.
