Scuttlebutt Falmouth to Brest / Crozon / Duarnenez cruise - July 2015

Ok... anyone still up for this? Weather dependent we plan to be leaving Falmouth 21 - 23 June with either L'Aber Wrac'h or Cameret as first stop as conditions direct.

June isn't right for me but did Camaret a couple of years ago, well worth the slightly longer passage time than L'Aberwrach. I am now heading direct to Benodet on 16th of July to provide a start point for the family holiday 2 week later. 8am departure Plymouth, arriving Benodet 35 hours later - 2 nights out and returning Brittany Ferries on Sunday 19th. If that suits anyone else any better - feel free to join in

I just love the different perspectives people take ! A fixed plan and confident journey time of 35 hours Plymouth to Benodet - for a fixed date in the future with no known wind direction or strength! And return ferry booked to make sure. Must enjoy the rough and tumble - and plan on a lot of diesel and pain if upwind.

I read this in Benodet sheltering from some strongish winds - and wondering about a journey time to just Cameret. How many DAYS ;-). Winds predicted to be on the nose all the way, and with biggish swell.

So far end of day 2, done 10 and 30 mile legs, with two relaxed afternoons - but not sure SWMBO would have gone any further into the swell upwind. Next stage tomorrow morning. No motoring yet though.

Not a bad idea to have a plan is it? When I am retired I will drift around when the weather allows, until then, I will continue to try and make the most of my spare time, one such tactic being to take the boat to a place I wish to holiday with a crew a couple of weeks before all the family travel together to enjoy 3 weeks hopefully in the sun! And yes, if it means motoring all the way, it is a small price to pay.

I hope champagne conditions return quickly so you can continue to enjoy that beautiful part of the world.

I'm out. Stuff happening at home which prevents it. I shall try again next year, for the Brest/Duarnenez festivals.

I'm keeping the boat though; not selling up and buying an old Saab or anything.

I'm out too - Buccaneer is staying local this summer 'cos I've ended up with a 38ft Cat to borrow FOC in the med, and as of yesterday I have got the Southern Ocean leg of Clipper RTW to prepare for #gulp

I will be at mylor early tomorrow (thurs) if anyone is around for a coffee (boat going back in at 7am ish after a repair) and if anyone wants to pick my brains / charts / passage plans from my previous jaunts across to Camaret.

Fair winds all
Chris
