Scuttlebutt Falmouth to Brest / Crozon / Duarnenez cruise - July 2015

A drink on Jan 10 in either venue sounds a nice idea, especially as it would be pretty much home turf - doesn't happen much when you're this far West!

Leave at HW, head due south, 24 hours later make sure you are the west side of La Four light and the east side of Ushant, then hang on for a fast ride thru Chenal, and turn left at the end after the cathedral like light house.

Of course that is a gross over simplification and asssumes fair winds.

32 hours should get you from Mylor to drinking your first Pastis. ;)

I would hope a bit less than that - its 100nm from Falmouth to the start of the four channel. Before we have overnighted in l'aber ildut just before the start of the four channel which makes it much easier since you "disconnect" the timing for the crossing of the channel from the timing to go through the four channel. Dont know whether this is still possible since its a few years since we passed that way - does anyone know? If possible then it makes for a daylight crossing to france and then a trip through the nasties in daylight the following day.

We would be interested in making the trip. Will have to get the liferaft serviced and sort the flares - anything else the French are hot on these days?

KevO is down in Cornwall 10th Jan and wants to have a beer and a natter and a beer, and another beer for luck, so how about a bit of a social to compare diaries etc... for this.

I have just looked at the tide tables and May half term (sat 23rd) is also the start of a neaps period - am just pondering that as a date as I don't have any kids that week.

So whose up for a beer sat 10th Jan - Falmouth Marina bar or how about the Punchbowl and Ladle near Feock?

Did this 'drinkie' idea get any traction? I've got it in my diary but no venue?

Apologies,
Cant make Feock cos I'm in 3V skiing but I'm still on for voyage. Was in Punchbowl about a month ago, very good food
Happies,
Keith

I'm still game for Saturday guys, although might be a bit stuck with the Punchbowl venue if my outlaws in Feock turn out to be away from home and I'm stuck crashing on the boat in Ponsharden yard for the night :)

Apologies to all involved but something has cropped up which means this planned meet on 10th will have to be postponed. Chris has asked that I post on this forum to that effect. A new date will be arranged and published in due course :)

Ok doke, so we're into Feb now, in fact I'm only 7 weeks away from launching and the sun actually had some warmth in it today so maybe we shouldn't start looking at this trip again :)

For me, the end of June neaps (23-28?) seems like a good time and I know some others were thinking about similar dates. Mid to end June over, maybe back first week in July?

So who's still game in principle?

Oh yes. If I don't head south earlier (late May neaps) then I'll be joining you.

Some potential pub dates for me....

Fri 27th feb
Sat 28th feb

I can also do midweek but that may not suit Russell and others from up country.

I'll be up for a pub meet on either of those or other date between 16 Feb and 2 Mar.

Heading over 23rd/28th June is good for me. Our holiday fortnight kicks off on 4th July, and I'm expected to have the boat over there by then.

We launch "Early Mist" on May 5th. I plan to get on boat May 15th and go (weather permitting, naturally). Heading to W coast France and points southward until we come back. First stop might be Roscoff, if I have crew, for the ferry back to Plymouth.

Drinks in Feb or March possible depending on actual dates as we have half term and kids visiting plus sundry friends arriving for the odd day, week or two.
