Just a thought... didn't know where to post this, but given that lots of folks read this forum, and lots don't read 'the lounge' here seemed as good as any...

Now...

We keep getting lots of informal get togethers organised, and its has been in the back of my mind for some time now, that maybe a spring ball could be quite good fun..... I mean a proper ball, with black tie, a decent band, champagne breakfast etc etc... with ovenight accomodation to make it viable for travelling etc etc

Forget the location for now, but does anyone else think this is a good idea?

Maybe we could approach YBW for sponsorship or support?

Anyway, we dress up for the Cherbourg meet. I put on a clean sock last year.

I thought we could also add in a bit of entertainment.... by having votes in the run up..... and awards for the most humorous post, best piece of advice, most entertaining cruising post etc etc... I can imagine that we might need to manage some of the acceptance speeches quite tightly /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif... but I am sure that there would be suppliers who would stump up some prizes.....

And if we made any profit, it would be a perfect opportunity to donate to something like the RNLI....

Sounds like a great idea but lets not forget that the Mercury marina meet was postponed due to lack of numbers.

Would love to come but I think it might be difficult to get sufficient support.

Oh and do we invite to MOBO'ers ?

The Mercury marina meet is a little Solent based, which is perhaps OK for people as far north as the Midlands, assuming they are Ok about being there without a boat... but discounts all our Northern and Scottish friends...

I didn't want to get into the location debate, but I was thinking that something central to give a fighting chance to wider population (but recognising that boating is alittle southern biased)... wanted to avoid London, as its too expensive... thoughts anyone?....... and definitely a land based event....

Sounds more feasible looking at it that way. I can understand why the Mercury meet doesn't fit everyone due to geographic's. Lets see what kind of response you get as it appears to be a great idea.

The Bene owners assoc have a great Christmas dinner and dance, at the Dart Marina Hotel, with overnight accommodation included. Works out at about £50 per head, all in, great value.

Sounds a good idea, but will be a major responsibility for the organiser.

I'm up for it- so few occasions to wear a frock! IMHO, should be land based, raggies and mobos. And my son plays in a very good Soul band- you know, Blues Brothers type of thing, theyr'e looking for gigs...

I would suggest that you look at doing it during SIBS or LIBS so that peeps would have another excuse to come down and they could co-ordinate there visit day to suit. Many already travel from the far north and this could be the icing on the cake.

Only trouble is that accommodation is like rocking horse shite during SIBS and it is very unlikely that we would get a decent deal in a reasonable hotel.
