What is the technical name of those screws used to join together two sheets of stainless steel? They typically have a very sharp thread which grip the metal together

I have seen some that have a sharp and machined tip; they seemed specially made to deal with SS sheet.

Tek-screws? They have a sort of vestigial drill-bit on the end so you don't need to drill holes. I helped clad an industrial unit a few years ago and if I remember rightly we were screwing them through the powder-coated cladding sheet and straight into the steel frame, with no drilling.

I actually have a few in my damage-control bag on the boat, just in case I ever need to screw a bunk board over a missing port or hatch :). Don't want to be messing about with pilot holes in the GRP under those circumstances!

I learned something new today! Tek screws sound like a gift from the gods.

They're certainly perfect for steel roofing sheets onto steel frames. That kind come with a washer attached, with a rubber face to seal the hole. You put a socket driver in your cordless drill, and just dap them in wherever needed, couple of seconds each.

You're always full of great ideas, Pete. I have some in the garage, spares from doing a stable roof last year. Now there will be a handful on the boat. Thanks:encouragement:

That's a variety of them, yes. They're different to the roofing screws I was thinking of, but the part that makes them a Tek screw is the odd-looking tip which these have.

Countersunk is probably not what you want for sheet metal, I assume those are intended for attaching wooden facing onto a metal structure.

A2 is too soft to drill into stainless steel sheet.I don't think those on ebay are meant for that.
