Screwfix OB1 sealant / adhesive

AVOID OB1
I found it to be RUBBISH!
I was fixing a water in-pipe in a toilet cistern that was weeping. I dried and cleaned everything. OB1 took 2 days to dry, and it still weeps! So everything is wet again - but it is supposed to be able to stick underwater; it is like trying to stick butter to the inside of a glass of water! I really have wasted time and money.

Which boat are you sailing? I've never come across one with a toilet cistern (other than a ferry maybe).
If you've got a tube that won't cure, take it back to wherever you bought it and complain. I'm sure they'll replace it.

This statement that you have made publicly is malicious, slanderous, without foundation and completely untrue. Unless you retract this immediately, we will be taking legal action against you in the High Court Belfast, where you will be affixed with all costs. We advise to give you this your most urgent attention.
OOOOH!

Fredrussel posted that in 2020. Post #3 in this ancient thread.
I did but in fairness to MadEnglish at least he got the quote right. Apologies for thread drift, but I’ve sometimes wondered if Obi-Wan did become more powerful after Darth Vader struck him down. Seems to me he just went a bit see through and glowed from that point onward.

As this thread has been resurrected I'll add my tuppence worth. I don't know about CT1 but OB1 is no good as a sealant. I used it to run around the perspex windows on my boat (I know! I'm supposed to take them off and bed them back down properly) and it was no good. I raked it off and used cheap old silicone, much better seal but I have to say not perfect, I'm going to try another layer of silicone to see if I can get perfect.

I can't remember what it was but I have only found one sealant to add round windows to seal. If I was on the boat I could find the tube. 3M comes to mind and it wasn't cheap.

The best I have found is EB25 - as strong as sika, works on wet (sometimes, nothing is magic) much less prone to go hard in a part used tube and about £3 a tube less than Sika 291. Also UV resistant without paying £30 a tube for the Sika UV stuff

I have used both. I am considering repairing an inflatable dinghy with CT1/OB1 instead of using the usual two part glue which never seems to work for me. I have time to wait for it to cure. Any views / warnings / recommendations?

I’ve never used a two part adhesive to mend a flubber???
Use the Polymarine branded stuff - it’s purpose made for this job and really does work well.

We tried it on an old honwave with mixed results where we patched it from the outside. We recently used it again on another render where we were able to put the patch on the inside by inserting it thru a valve hole. So far, this has had much more success.

If you get the correct 2 part glue for the material you're using (it's different between PVC and Hypalon), it should be fine - I've done numerous RIB/SIB repairs over the years and never had any issues with the correct glue, preparation and application.

Try TEK 7?

Why not use the two part proprietry adhesive for your inflatable? Or even the special get you home one part glue.

Using other adhesives is likely to end up with subprime results, innit.

Use burtyl tape for windows, and deck fittings. It'll seal, won't leak, remains flexible and can even be reapplied.
