scottish harbours

In terms of villages with harbours ...the likes of Elie, Stonehaven, and Aberdour easily beat the like of Tarbert and Tobermory, both of which are a bit run-down and rough round the edges, yet they seem to be held in high esteem.

Not claiming that the East has it all, but it has some pluses.

Mind you the East Coast towns you quote are all very firmly in the comuter belt, much more cash swilling around. Now what about Methil or Kirkaldy?

Lived near Stonehaven for thirty years and know the harbour well. Had you spent some time supping in the Marine when you formed your rose-tinted opinion? It's OK, but not a patch on Tobers or Tarbert.

Eyemouth, lots in Firth of Forth, StAndrews(just), 1 harbour and moorings in Tay, Arbroath, Stonehaven etc. If you are coming the pilot is worth the money.

Friends visiting Stonehaven had their boat cast adrift from the wall (with no warning) by a local fishing boat skipper.

It is exposed to any onshore swell. The inner harbour dries. Picturesque by East Coast standards. Two good pubs, excellent restaurant.
