In here , I told you about our adventures in NW Scotland and a incident involving a radar arch etc....
The damage was reported and an isurance claim is underway ... no problem so far and insurance company have been very efficient assigning surveyor, (1 day after claim was made) and I am getting some quotes for repair/replacements, which scares me a bit. Radar have had water ingress and appears to be a write off ... so a new one is about £3K ... but the Radar arch thingie is the worrying part ... a 2M + high structure (1.5M wide), holding some heavy stuff such as the 22 Kg Scanner, plus a antenna pod etc... Repair appears to be a non-starter as the dismanteling, de-glassing, repair and re-glassing is more expensive than having one manufactured in 3mm SS sheet bent to shape and tig welded & polished from the existing damaged frame. The first quote I have had in, inclusive of fitting (no electricals)... to present to my insurance company is for £4,900 + VAT /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif
Should I be worried about quotes like that, or is this "normal".... If someone with knowledge of SS manufacturing could comment it would be most apprciated.
