OK, peeps, I want sky digital TV on my boat in barcelona, I can get it down here, but it seems a mite expensive. How can I go about getting a reciever and card, in the UK and then bringing it down here, I have a dish, but do I need a new LAN aswell? Please help, not sure about all this stuff, having never done it. I have an old reciever, which was FTA, butr now this card onlyworks for some crap channels. Thanks peeps!

Try these people - www.satcure.co.uk

Dunno where the LAN comes in; were you watching on a laptop before, and using a USB device (perhaps from Hauppuage (spelling)).

I only know about Sky type boxes... but BBC channels are all free to air (as opposed to ITV etc which are Free To View - but need a card.

Shane has got sat tv in your "other" home so how come you need it on Englander??

Are you buttering up to Kerry so that she can hold hands with Ethan and watch the soaps?????

Hi Colin got your e mail address so will send you msg that way as well, as wrote on an envelope and thats now disappeared.

I have satelite TV on my boat, it wasn't easy, Sky TV are dead against anyone taking their boat with it on out of the UK. There's obviously some agreement or whatever with the continent that has them dead scared. Their actions a few years ago put a lot of local outlets for Sky & installation out of business, so wasn't impressed when I said innocently its for a boat. They told me where to go. & now no with competition specialist knowledge & help isn't available.

I ordered the set, box and dish from a company in Southampton who were advertising SKY for boats, they were great, told me what to say and do. Problem was the Sky rules were changing just to prevent anyone doing what you want to do.

The latest is, I cancelled my additional monthly fee, as they prevented me using their card under this agreement, as horrors IT WAS BEING USED ON A BOAT. Argued well it is in the UK, told aahh but you could take it overseas. So now I have to take the card & the actual box, from my home with me, which is ok if you are going away for weeks, but a dam nuisance for a couple of days.

Anyway plan to replace Sky with NTL or similar, as they have been so very very difficult. Have heard that the continental equivalent to Sky isn't very good, thats why Sky are so paranoid about exporting their set up abroad. Its quite a laugh just to call them and say its for a boat, the response is amazing.

Have my dish (which is on the boats roof obviously) controls in a wardrobe, and when I get gawpers trying to stare in, I can move the dish and give them a fright with out them seeing me. ha ha its the small things in life... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

yes, you can & thats exactly what Sky are worried about, its why for whatever reason they have a thing about boats. There's obviously something bigger going on re satelite tv in Europe. As I said, cos you can't get experienced help, I just don't understand what it is.

Just had another thought Colin. If you look in that enlish lang "Costa Blanca News" there is a bunch of adverts for sat systems. Cant remember any prices cos it was a while ago I looked at it. Seem to remember you actually needed a bigger dish than was normal in UK.

Is there no way of doing it through the Ian's wifi system???

Colin,
I have a few friends in Spain, and all have Sky. What you need to do is have the system registered to your UK address (or that of a relative). Pay monthly via a UK bank account, and ship the receiver and card to Spain.
Hope this helps.

Terry

Its an arm, three legs and two inches of willy for a card down here, so I was trying to save a bit, being a Scot! I'll be here by the way!

That seems to be the way to go, but it will have to be a friend, no relatives in UK. Thanks for your help.

yes its somthing like that, they are very serious about not moving anything to do with Sky out of the UK. Also as colin advises its more expensive in Spain etc. Some people on my moorings have a Sky plug in, Sky seem to be ok about that, as they don't see it as being portable I assume.

I heard through mates at Sky that they are so paranoid about this that they are now monitoring the numbers that phone in from boxes to authorise when machine is reenergised. If a foreign number, can be turned off and traceable through box ID thus prosecutions can be bought as outside contractual agreement. How true don't know but be wary perhaps. Paul

It's the other way around, SKY call the box. I think they only do this if you have mutiple boxes at one address and so receive a discount. I had no trouble until I got a second box then I received letters requesting that I plugged them back into the telephone.
