I'm planning a trip to the Channel Islands this weekend leaving Thursday night and had thought about fetching up in Sark on Friday lunchtimeish. Anybody any experience of the anchorages / moorings there in the likely SW F4/5.

Best Anchorages in Sark are Grand Greve, Dixcart and Derrible but all are exposed to the SW winds unless you tuck right in close to the shore. Derrible i probably your best bet. You could stop in the bay just North of Masselin but you will have to pay for a bouy if you grab one of the Sark Moorings ones left out. Why not stop in Fermain in Guernsey then you could row ashore and get an ice cream at least anchor just inside Shell Beach or Belvoir on Herm. Sarks ok if you just want to stare at the cliffs.

Much better to sail there in the morning, relax a little then go for lunch have a walk around then back to the boat for a swim and then sail either to Herm or Guernsey for dinner after finding an anchorage. If you get it right you could moor inside Herm harbour and spend the night drinking in the Mermaid only if you have twin keels or drying legs of course. Great place for the kids to run free aswell.
