Sardinia Summer 2015

An impressive sight indeed.
I believe that Turmoil, the 64m Royal Denship which turned up last year, remains the longer/bigger superyacht ever squeezed in such (relatively) restricted space, but this Helios thing is up there among the bigger beasts seen in CF for sure!
This is my thread on Turmoil, for those who missed it, together with one of the pics that I posted back then...

Btw, M, the other boat (barely visible in your pic) on stbd side of AG doesn't look too shabby either.
A Ferretti Navetta, by the look of her? There's one of those which is a regular in CF, during summer.

Can't wait to fly back south, the Milan weather is making my sea withdrawal symptoms worse by the day...! :ambivalence:

This just turned up whilst our backs were turned.

Very nice Palmer J 52m. Actually she is Helios 2, completely different boat to Helios. Built for a US tv bigshot in 2002. They left for Palma this morning and we will be following them shortly.......

Wow! You fallen out of love with the Walker Bay? Fallen in love with MYAG's Novu? (which, imho, is one great RIB). What kg can JW's crane lift?

Nearly there - need some help/advice on how to fit a Novurania.
Jetski will go - done 2 seasons - time to move on.
Thoughts are that with something like a Novurania, we can go places we wouldn't with our Walker Bay.
Been reading Bart's thread and it seems that he had the same idea 18 months ago.
Been tossing around the options - 4m or 4.3m.
Crane and F/B weights are no problem - the Jetski is heavier than a 4.3 Novurania.
The problem is that we sometimes lift the Walker Bay onto the bathing platform for short trips.
A 4m Novurania won't (just) fit on our bathing platform but I think a 4.3m Novurania would fit on the F/B.
Maybe we should just tow it for the short distances that we now do with the Walker Bay on the bathing platform.

Anyway as I say - nearly there.

Been out to Guidi today.
Loaded our new 12mm chain a couple of days ago so it was our first time with the new chain.
Wow - what a difference - the anchor set immediately.
We should have upgraded the chain years ago.
The old V4 windlass coped well - and the wind was quite strong.
I've been kicking the idea around of upgrading to a V6 windlass but the holes in the deck are all different and I think we could weaken the deck if we aren't too careful.
The V5, however uses the same holes and is rated higher than the V4.
So, as the V4 coped so well, I'm thinking that a straight swap to a V5 which (according to Lewmar) is the correct windlass for us anyway.

I took a couple of pics of Guidi today - counted 27 boats in the bay - the summer is "heating up".
I'll post them later.

EDIT
Here they are

When we first arrived, we never thought this bay would be so popular.
However there would be many more here if this bay was in the Baldricks.

We even had a visit from another Plymouth built boat - a P72 - we think it was on charter.

But even with all these boats in the bay, we managed to find ourselves a small corner where we could be alone.
After a long swim to clean the boat's bottom and a scuba dive to clean the rudders and shafts (the props were OK), we both "zonked out" on the flybridge.
What a lovely quiet place.

Just a quick update - not posted much on this thread recently.

Sadly, everything comes to an end.
We had a small mishap the other day - our stern thruster was showing problems and we are hoping to fix it by replacing the motor brushes.
New brushes are being shipped to us and we hope that they will arrive today.
If so, we will fit them as soon as we get them.
Apart from that, JW is ready for her return to Sant Carles.
We are going to leave a little earlier than planned - there is a good weather window over the next few days and we have also planned to meet with family and friends in Mallorca so we will be staying there for 2 or 3 weeks before the final crossing to mainland Spain.

Assuming that those reading this thread are still interested, we will try and post more as we travel through the Baldricks - probably stay most of the time on anchor - we will be very dependant on the 3G for internet so may not be able to upload many pics. Will try our best though - people on here do seem interested in our summer cruise.

Please feel free to post anything you like on this thread after we have gone.

Thanks H. Weather permitting during my hols, I'm planning to explore the anchorages around the south of S Antioco as you suggested and then go further east and check out the anchorages around Teulada which I believe you didn't get to. We might head even further on to Vilasimius and up the east coast of Sardinia to visit some of the anchorages there which we didn't have a chance to explore on our way down from Olbia

Update from me

?ugger - wrong parts arrived - my fault - Sleipner asked me if it was a 4 brush set and I said yes - in fact each brush is split into two making is an 8 brush set.

So, I will have to "brush up" (pun intended) on my docking skills without a stern thruster.

This means if anyone sees a P67 with a madman out of control - keep your distance.
