Saltwater in freshwater cooling system

Fresh water cooling system water level, in my TAMD 30A, 105 hp diesel, appears to increase, and there is sign that thermostat valve has been letting some water out, but I have not seen temp guage go above normal? I suspect I am getting sea water in to the system somehow? Has anyone any suggestions?
This has probably been slowly happening for some months. What could the effect on engine block be? Some antifreeze still evident in the system but much dilluted now.

Simple answer is Heat exchanger holed answer replace core if possible
Salt water in fresh water system will aggressivly atack anyhing alloy.

Check the connections on the end of the heat exchanger, ensure that the stack is in the correct position.
