For information I have just had a quote from a sailmaker for washing a genoa for my 32ft boat. The cost is £28 including any minor stitching repairs which I consider to be very reasonable.

The company concerned is W SAILS at Leigh on Sea, Essex. They are a small family business who have been in the area for 50 years or more.

My genoa is waiting to be washed but it needs a few more sails to make up a viable load in a big machine.

So if anyone wants a sail or two washed quickly then please contact WSails. Then I will be able to get my genoa back soon so I can go sailing again! (Yes I know I should have done it months ago!)

I have used them for years. I thought that the washing season was over as a friend got told that last week.

I have told a few peeps who send their sails away and next winter I shall try and negotiate a bulk discount with W Sails who are very near where I live. Very helpful and make sails, covers, canopies etc. My new sacrificial strip is looking very nice /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Interesting. In Portsmouth price seems to be about 2.40-2.60 per kilo. Still waiting for the bill for my 34fter but if sail weighs 15kilo then about £35 plus a tenner for a check over.

Looking back it seems a local sailmaker was charging about £80 for a wash and check so seems you have to shop arround-as with most things.
