Having installed a SH VHF today I've removed my non DSC Sailor.Thinking of putting it up for sale.Could I have an idea of it's value? It's perfecty functional.SAILOR_RT-2047a.jpg

I gave mine away to a very good friend. He felt it suited his era of boat.

Afterwards, I noticed that on ebay they could go up to £100. I thought about £25 tops.

The "Ship's Sailor" has reached around £200.

They have such lovely sound which I don't get with my newer one. However, overall, I much prefer the modern VHF's . Mainly because of so many more scanning options. The footprint is also much smaller which suited me better.

I think it might be worth hanging onto yours for a while.

Humph - proper Sailor Wirelesses have a great clunking dial to set the channel number. MIne still works and there is a post it note on the back with Singor Marconi's phone number for servicing.

Indeed - and more interestingly, you can program the actual frequencies for the numbers by altering things on the back of the dial. Thus giving yourself channel 0, the other side of duplex channels, etc.

Sailor are the best RT's ever made. If I were you I would re-install it and punt the newer one onto ebay. (just my opinion). If you must sell it I have seen them go for a couple of hundred online.

Looks much smaller and more modern than our one.

We also use a matching Sailor R109 for FM and AM (LW & MW) but it's not doing so well nowadays. Maybe it needs a service?
Does anyone know if modern car radios are more or less sensitive - to let us pick up weak signals? Eg a Kenwood KDC-DAB4551U MP3/WMA/AAC/CD/USB Radio with AUX In & built-in DAB seems to have everything I could image wanting over the next decade.

I'm having second thoughts .Everybody is telling me to kep it.The reason I got the SH is that with AIS a DSC set is convenient. The clarity of sound of the Sailor is vastly superior to the SH radio.

I suspect the poorer sound quality of the new radio is due to smaller speaker it will lamost ceretainly have a socket (jack) for an external speaker which can be a much better sound. The jack plug will be available from any electronics store and you might have a decent sized speaker in the boat or lying around at home. Just a thougt olewill

Well they are good and tough.

Made by the Vikings.

Can't remember if mine was clinker or not.

Well, personally I'd rather have a decent new Standard Horizon, properly installed with a good quality aerial - which is what I've got. I don't believe that radio or signal-processing technology has taken a backwards step since the old cast-iron Sailors were designed - some cheaper brands might perhaps cut corners for the sake of cost but I don't put Yaesu (aka SH) in that category.

Good for you that nostalgia has apparently kept demand and hence prices up, though :)

They're not fetching the high prices people think.I'll keep it for now because if my SH VHf breaks down I'll have a back up.I've had such a bad experience with my old(now binned) RD68 that I became a little paranoid.
