Sailmakers medway area

Northrop at Ramsgate 01843 851665.
Wilkinson at Conyer 01795 521503.
Not recommendations, just statements of fact!
I would recommend Quay Sails, who are based at Poole but don't mind travelling to Medway at all as one of them has relations there.

I can recomend Wilkinsons at Conyer.
Cindy is very helpful and knowledgeable.
I've had sails and covers from them because they have a loft in Burnham, and have been very pleased.
Sailmaking is excellent, but don't expect lightning response from the sales team
[ because there isn't one].

Wilkinsons seem to look after old customers but busy enough not to bother much with new. Quality is excellent but watch out for unexpected high quotes. i've asked around on the pontoons locally and nobody is too complimentary about Medway based. I got a genoa from Jekells; twas good but slow acoming.

This time of year the lofts all offer good discounts and since this is a vigorously competitive market, you really don't have to limit your searches to local makers- you will get the best deals by comparing the most commonly known names and possibly the best sails from those who are used to building them for your type of boat

If we're getting into recommendations further afield, the last two sails I've had were from Jeckells, who do come to Kent and measure up and did produce excellent sails, on time. They were the lowest quote of the likely candidates, too, but you should still get several quotes as Gin rightly says.

Spoke to them at the boat show last year and arranged for them to quote me to upholster the whole boat, never turned up. So wont be asking them again.
I'm not flying a flag for them here, but in fairness I should point out that Jeckells upholsterers and Jeckells sailmakers are entirely different concerns. I think maybe the owners are brothers, but apart from that there's no connection at all.

I would like recommend Fareastsails. They supply sails worldwide and also offering discounts up to 50 percent on the finest premium cruising sails.

Welcome to YBW Bruce! Great first post.....

Have you tried the One Sails, (ex Quantum I think) available locally? Advantage over similar cost North Sails for example is they will help you measure the boat.

And thus avoiding the nerve racking first hoist!
