I'm a rather rookie sailor planning to sail around the Dodecanese this summer. My boat is Greek flagged and I was entertaining the possibility of crossing over to Turkey while I'm down there. As far as yacht documents and safety equipment go, does anybody know what is required by the Turkish authorities? I intend to convert my Greek boat registration to one that allows "unrestricted journeys abroad" (which includes details of the boat in English). My skippers license has been issued by a Greek school, and is in Greek -- does Turkey require some additional certificate of competence? Finally, my boat has a permanent VHF installation by some PO (plus my handheld VHF), but this isn't reflected in the yacht's documentation. Consequently, I have no MMSI, call sign, permit to operate a radio station or certificate of competence regarding said radio. Is this likely to be a problem? For what it's worth I understand that I must first sail to one of the entry/exit ports to report to customs and border control, and that I must have a transit log. Any help on the subject would be greatly appreciated, as I really wouldn't want to get into any sort of trouble with the authorities there. I have a 9m sailboat.
