Hello,
any suggestions for sailing shoes that have a good grab when the deck gets wet? My TBS marine shoes are in general very good on a dry deck but when things get rough they get slippery.

Had lots of problems with this - SWIMBO has not been able to find a sailing shoe she "likes" - so we find A shoe she likes and I razor cut the sole at around 3mm pitch with the aid of a 7" side plate and a scapel. (tried straight cuts but have found curved to be better) The results are a very non slip shoe that grips like hell on a wet surface AND is "acceptable" as she says! With the exception of leather soled shoes you can razor cut anything and it will grip on a wet surface.

Sorry to have to bring this up, but Crocs give amazing wet deck grip.

(Genuine ones, not cheap "market specials")

well, they must have some redeeming qualities I guess...

They are indeed to many eyes (..mine too...) not esthetically correct but... they outperform most expensive boatshoes. Copies are indeed worthless.

I find that crocs grip the deck, but that once wet, my feet slip around inside the crocs. I know they're supposed to be loose fitting; maybe mine are too loose?

Parallel curved lines of cuts, start with the plate rim at the toe end of the shoe and move it towards the heal in 3 mm intervals keeping the centre of the plate roughly on a centreline drawn on the shoe from toe to heal. For children’s shoes I use and old cd as a guide.

I found that straight cuts have less holding than curved cuts. Craft knives are inferior to scapels for making the cuts.
