I suspect all of the people who have replied above, knew how to sail before going with this company.

Re: Sailing holidays sound lethal to me

I know a couple of people that worked for sailing holidays both in the Ionian and in Croatia, they certainly worked their butts off and the only things I remember them saying that were bad were a couple of maintenance problems, props falling off etc, and generally, that the people who thought they knew how to sail had multiple problems parking!!!

Re: Sailing holidays sound lethal to me

Sailing Holidays are simply superb. Been with them 5 times. The Skipper, The Engineer and the Hostie work like stink. Had an engine problem one year (it died completely). Next morning a new one had be sent over to Rogac from Kremik, and installed within 2 hours and we were on our way. Attitude is first class. If you want to go off on your own for a day or two it's no problem. Thoroughly recommend them.

Like others here weve been with them loads of times and realy cant fault them, the organisation is great, they'll tell you when you book the type of people that are already booked ie if there are children and what age they are, ideal for us with two kids. Some of the boats are getting tired now but they are well maintained. The last time we went there had been a storm on the previous flotilla which had caused some damage to sails and furling gear this took a couple of days into our flotilla to sort out. As its a small(ish) company they dont have spare boats or loads of spare eqiptment but make up for it with hard work.

Agree probably maintenance but the person said it was a strong gust that laid them over and admitted they had too much sail up.

I should also add that its when things go wrong that the good companies shine.

Our charter flight back from Greece was delayed. All the other holiday reps left their customers at the airport. When sailing holidays knew of delay theirs was the only rep that stayed. Stayed with us when airline transferred us to a restaurant (crap) and rep gave me money (run out of Greek currency) to buy food at an adjacent quality restaurant. Poor rep had to field lots of complaints from other holidaymakers as to why their respective reps had not stayed with them!

Chartered with them in 1999, we had no problems, we had a great time, the boats were tired but OK, nothing broke, most of it worked, the flotilly guys and girls worked themselves to a standstill. They rearranged anchors on the seabed every morning so they wouldnt snag and even swam ashore with anchors when we rafted up for the barby and cleared the beach of Itallians - if you dont believe me ask Mick - I still see him at the SH boat show stand, take one look at im and you will believe it!

My enduring memory of the holiday is an inky black night returning from the bar in the dinghy - which was deflating ever so delicatley (i.e. just about afloat) so SWIMBO (very tipsy) was pumping it up in a sort of random way, when she could keep the hose on valve, my mate was very merry but rowing sort of adequatley and eldest son was attepting to bail when I says - what has a red and a green with a white above it? answer = the front of the ferry, I have never seen a dinghy inflate and move so fast without an electric pump and an outboard! happy days

Kids loved the experience, saw wales and dolphins. The only problem I had was it proved to me once and for all that french boats dont sail best with the mast pointing downwards so I traded my heavy thing bought one.

SH is like the Hotel California, you can check out but you cannot leave, their customers book year after year so they must be doing something right.
