Sailing having removed antifoul?

We are selling our yacht. It is now out of the water and I have lightly rubbed down the old antifoul ready to be re-antifouled when we sell her.

It looks like I will need to put her back in the water and sail her from Plymouth to Southampton to position her with another broker but I really didn't want to re-antifoul her until she has sold.

She would only be in the water for a few days so would that be OK without me antifouling? The rubbing down left some paint on the bottom but it is very thin and in some places the epoxy coat is showing through... she has been epoxied with 5 coats of International Gelshield and that is intact and complete undamaged as far as I can see.

She'll be fine. And even if (not too likely at this time of year) some beastie does get up close and personal with your bottom, it'll be the work of seconds to clean it off when she's lifted.

My first boat had never been antifouled in 12 years. She lived on a drying quay, where the previous owner brushed the hull down about once per month.

She will be absolutely fine. Fouling is only growing slowly now and rubbing your old antifouling down will have given it a new lease of life - albeit a short one.
Just make sure you have it properly pressure washed when you lift at the end of the trip even if it looks clean

It is the fact that my boat has been antifouled means that it has also been etched (and epoxied in this case) which makes it different from those that have never been antifouled and it is specifically because of that which made me ask the question /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I will just do it and pressure wash at the other end... thanks.
