Sailing Club for Cruisers

great facilities - all tide pontoon - scrubbing blocks - hard - crane - comradeship - hardway sailing club

Google "Ashdown Sailing Club"
Run by an RYA instructor called John Alden
Superb bloke and more than happy to pass on his experiences. Also an engineer by trade I believe so blooming usefull when you need to re-engine.
Was a member for 4 years at £12 a year.
Most boats based in Chichester and Portsmouth.
As an introduction to big boat sailing I don't think you can beat them.
Cheers

Come further west

I can strongly recommend Lymington Town Sailing Club, but there again I am biassed (see my profile!)

Easy and inexpensive to join, t-shirts and shorts welcome in the bar, free visitors pontoon, cheap drinks, and year round sailing events, from day sailing to a 2 week cruise. Boats range from 22ft to 55ft, and all muck in together.

PM if you would like more info, or an introduction.

glad it was not just me who found gosport cruising club very strange - we first saw it when walking and thought it looked ideal - handy location with pleasant looking club with storage ashore - we wrote to enquire about membership - no reply -- we wrote again and hand delivered letter to club- no reply - we searched for club on web and rang secretary and left message - no reply - we posted - on web and were given email address and emailed - eventually managed to speak to - think it was secretary - and explained we were interested in joining club - kept our boat on gosport boat yard mooring and wanted to join local club - were asked where we lived - explained sussex and then told club only accepts members from within gosport,

And a dinghy racing section with a few "better than average" sailors.

The Guildford Coastal Cruising Club is very friendly, rallies in summer (mainly Solent, with a few Poole etc and a crosschannel), talks in the winter but these are in Guildford! I can't recall what single membership is, but joint is £30 a year.

I would recommend this club - but I am baised (see my profile)! It costs nothing to check us out one Tuesday evening!
