Sailing Clothing

I am a student currently doing my dissertation into sailing clothing. I would be really greatful and interested if anyone would let me know if they have any problems with their sailing clothing or if they have any ideas of developments needed. Many thanks!

Seriously......

The big problem that I get, and looking at many others waterproofs, is the knees and bums are worn out far too quickly....... you do spend quite a bit of time on your knees when you sail /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Have more clothing specifically designed for women, and when there are women's ranges, don't assume that all are ladies 5ft 5!

Second tweetinat's point. More serious off shore gear designed for women. This includes drop down crotch, but also clothes actually designed to fit a woman's shape. And most of us have not been a size 12 for quite some time.

Plus making them cheaper

plus better hanging loops as they always seem to break which means finding a hanger or flinging damp oilies on floor/berths

Also.... more pockets.... lots more pockets... accessible from the outside.... plus perhaps a completely watertight pocket somewhere....

Sun Glasses that can swim.

Sun hats that stay on in more than 10 knots without flattening your ears or crushing your scull.

Sun Block that lasts more than 4 hours on deck

Sun block that lets you swim and still provides protection.

Shorts with more pockets and non baggy legs.

Shirts with long sleeves made of light summer fabrics.

Thermal gloves so I don't get frost bite from my can of grog.

Deck shoes that have no laces but look good.

No comments on wet gear wear rates, mine are over 10 years old and still like new.

Choice of leg lengths- there a quite a few short, fat sailors around!

I've been searching for an alternative to oilies trousers for when the weather isn't that bad- I want something wind resistant, possibly water resistant, breathable, quick dry and not cotton/jeans material, hard wearing especially over knees and bum, possibly stretchy- and vaguely flattering to the female form. I've been trying 'walking'/outdoor types but nothing suits.

Second tweetinat's and Abigails points we need offshore stuff for girls (I am fed up of overlong sleeves /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif), and when there is a choice of girly stuff not just in pastel or other intresting colours like white (bet they would look nice with red derv and/or tyre fender stains down the front /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif), hoods with stiffer peaks like hill walking jackets for those of use who wear specs and also quality budget kit which doesnt fall apart after a seasons use (I wont name names).
