Help!

I am desperately seeking for sailing boots.
UK size 15
EUR size 51
US size 16

I have tried the MPX boots from Musto size 14 UK but even with thin socks and the nails cut it was to small.

In need some BIG help here.
I've been Google'n around but also without result.

Help,

I read something somewhere recently about a guy on a lifeboat. The RNLI had had to get some boot specially made for him as I think he was a 16.

Obviously you are past the cut off for standard boots, maybe the RNLI might be able to help you. Or maybe a call to Gill or another yachty type manufacture.

They may even have some in stores, but only send out when needed.

Good Luck.

Someone had a similar request a few years back, and received some excellent advice, but I can't find the thread now. I'm not usually in favour of multiple posting, but I'd put this request on scuttlebutt as well to possibly gain a wider readership - someone there must have had the same problem

There was an advert and an article in PBO a couple of years ago, so would be worth asking for the correct clipping. They will have to be made especially, but I guess you are used to that!

Hi!

Have you tried calling Musto? they are usually very helpful (I had to go for the MPX boots as I too have big feet, luckily I could get into the MPX boots - just!).

In my search for boots I also read that Dubarry make custom boots for people upon request but they are a tad expensive and I believe a visit to Ireland is necessary for the measure up.

Maybe worth a call?

As an option you might try looking at firefighter boots. Leather rather than rubber these days. A quick search found size 16 in the states for $245. I may be misguided but my ff boots look a lot like dubarry's and the like.

All,

Thank you for the help.

Status.
I have called with,
Dubarry, max UK 13 in boots, no tailor made.
Musto, max UK 14 no tailor made.
RNLI, they gave me two names, marineco and BTR Silverstone.
Marinco the answer was sorry we don't go that far.
BTR Silverstone seems not to exist anymore?
@ ianreid
I have searched for firefighter boots size 16 US but my google did not find it.
Can you give me a link?

Someone wrote to PBO some time ago with the same problem and his letter was published. It produced a positive reply as follows -
'I am a bespoke bootmaker as well as a sailor. I have made many pairs of waterproof seaboots. They are made in the style of a pre-WW1 British naval seaboot but with razor cut Vibram deck soles. I can make any style in any size up to about 16 or 17'.

This appeared in the May 2003 editorial. Hope this is of help to you.

He's retired. See Colmce's link to thread last year.

"Hiya,

Got the article from a friend, and also the follow up - unfortunatly the chap who makes the bespoke boots mentioned is retiring at Christmas and has a full order book till then. Some relief as he also charges £800 for a pair...

Looks like I'll be putting razor cut on the bottom of my wellies then"

Oh I hope you are successful, I am US size 15 and after crossing the channel in sandals and Seal Skinz waterproof socks I decided I REALLY need some seaboots.

Dubarry also told me they wont make me a pair and so far nobody else seems to have any.

Good luck to you, if I find a solution I'll ask about 16 for you and post it.

Cheers,

No probs, I only knew because I've been tracking down every lead.

I've taken this as a personal challenge, and have surfed what must be almost every boating and boot site on the entire planet over the last few days trying to find a lead to somewhere who manufactures them - I've got three google browsers open even as I type, trying different search terms.......and I'm getting nowhere.

I think wellies, and razor cut the soles, or fireman type boots are only recourse other than having boots custom made at huge expense

Ok here an update.

I just bought boots, size 15/50 green/white brand Tretorn.
In Germany, Berlin.

My size shoe is 14.5-15 and I still have some room left!
They also have bigger but then they are black.
Ok the colour is not very nautical but at least I have dry feet!
I hope more people can use this link.
