I Changed my Yanmar sail drive diaphragms last winter
An expensive passtime and to be honest the old ones seemed to be as good as new
The Yanmar is better because it has two seals with a sensor inbetween them - but it also has a similarly low recommended life of 5 years - which is ridiclous in my view.
Its worth having a chat with your insurers who may be happy to accept regular inpsection rather than replacement
I wrote a paper on my experiences in changing the sail drive diaphragms and will send anyone a copy if they PM me with an email address
Also is you have a Volvo then PBO did an article on changing these seals which you can down load for a small fee - very worthwhile IMHO
