Hi there.

I have been trying to remove the propeller on my saildrive unit, and as I have no instructions, I wondered if anyone on the forum would know haw to get it off. I have located two allen screws and have removed these. I think they hold the pivot pins in! Do I just knock these out to remove the blades? Once the blades are removed, I think I just have to undo a central bolt.

Any information would be gratfully received.

Thanks and Regards, and have a Happy New Year,

depends on the type of prop but for my flex-o-folds on yanmar legs the procedure is (a) remove allen screws, (b) drift out pivot pins (c) lift off blades (d) main bolt head is now exposed, lock shaft, remove with socket. (e) prop is on splines, not taper, so should slide off easily. ps change oil & replace anode while you're at it!

Thanks very much for the information. It confirms my thoughts on the method, and I will try this on Monday when I get back to the boat. The reason for removing the prop is to replace the anode. I have already drained and replaced the oil.

Thanks again,

Hi,

You prob know this but just in case, the pivot pins for the blades are tapered and will only drive thro one way, if you look carefully before hitting it is obvious which way to go. Good luck.

When you drift out the pins remember to hold on to the blades. On my propeller (which isn't a Volvo one) the heavy bronze blades would fall to the ground and get damaged if they landed on concrete or rock.

Thanks to everyone for the valuable input given. After much 'persausion', the prop came off and then the boss. A couple of useful bits of information:

1) My Saildrive turned out to be a 110 model.
2) There is a grub screw in the boss-locking bolt that must be removed before attempting to remove it.
3) When re-seating the boss-locking bolt, the 'professionals' apparently put in locktite to stop it coming off. This is not as designed, and can prevent you getting the boss-locking nut undone at all. In any event it took a lot of strength.

Thanks again to all,

Regards,
