Sail numbers

I noticed on Sunday an couple of Sunsail boats with headsails bearing a different number to the main, I would not hav e thought more of it but both had GBR numbers as well as the fleet numbers. I would have thought a sail training company would ensure that numbers matched.
The question is are there any rules as to sail numers?

Nope ..... it is accepted that sail numbers shall not be offensive, shall not be same as another boats.

But at the end of the day, the only ones that are actually regulated are racing numbers .......

I only know because my present boat has no sail number and I investigated the production number etc. to ascertain her sail number ... to be told that I could put whatever number I liked on her ....... and that was from an authoritative source !!!!!
So I still have no number - I couldn't be bothered in the end !!

Ventspils w/ender is VE 1980
