The double skin construction of our Sadler 29 has a great many advantanges. But when it comes to accessing the eletrical wiring or adding components, it is an absolute b*****
I am about to add a Navtex and have to get a link wire from the GPS mounted over the hatch garage down to the chart table as well as drawing through the aerial cable from the stern rail. The latter will not be much of a problem, the former is proving to be difficult. There is an existing wiring run from the instrument bank and the GPS through a hole behind the instrument facia, down the side of the hatch garage, under the coach roof skin and down inside to the point where the hull and coachroof meet.
I have tried various ways of threading stiff wires, stiff plastic etc along the existing wiring route, but without success because unlike putting a mousing line down a mast, there is no control over the direction the wire or leader goes.
As far as I can see, the only way to get it done is to cut a small inspection hatch in the cabin wall ( I think it can be done reasonably unobtrusively) so that wiring can be drawn through.

Any ideas or suggestions gratefully received.

I've had some success in the past with a light line with suitable metal leader and a magnet strong enough to work through fibreglass.

I've got a Sadler 29 too, and am about to tackle a similar problem.
Can I suggest you post the query somewhere else as well - on the forum at www.mikelucasyachting.co.uk. It's a forum specially for Sadler topics and you'll almost certainly hear from someone who's done it.

As you say, extremely difficult. In fact I recently gave up on the idea of mounting a new echo in the hatch garage for that reason (also less susceptible to water damage at the chart table). If you only need a simple 2-wire connection, I assume you have no spare circuits left? My '29 has quite a few unused twin cables to the garage. One possibility: if you remove the STB compass and can manage to get a cable to there from the garage, the route is fairly clear.; the trouble with the headliner is the numerous globs of glass/resin in undefined places.

As CANTATA says, join us at the MikeLucas Sadler forum.

I had a Sadler 32 and had similar problems when renewing the instruments. I accessed the bulkhead space through the starboard compass and found the existing cables in a squashed plastic "trunking" (plastic pipe) which I cut and pulled through, pulling a mouse both ways. It was very tight and i ended up using the winch to pull the top part via a block on the traveller beam, the bit going down was mch easier.

Good luck!
