I have a Sadler 26 where the stanchions are mounted in sockets which are recessed into fiberglass deck mouldings. There are cracks coming from the stanchion bases in the fiberglass which were repaired last season but have appeared again very quickly.
How much of a problem is this?
Where will any water leaks be ending up? - given the double skin nature of a sadler?
I know you can replace the inserts but this seems a very expensive job. Has anybody any experience of this repair and is it something I can put off until the end of next season?

I've had my Sadler 29 restored three years ago after purchase and the stanchion bases were replaced as priority.

All the usual leaks now sorted as well (windows etc) so now a much dryer boat. Yes all those leaks do go into the double skin. In the Sadler 29 can only get to the low points in the skin in a couple of places and not so easy but monitor these for peace of mind.

Surveyors initial report suggested that high water reading in places was due to possible osmosis but I didnt believe this. Instead due to water in the double skin. Proved this when drilled a hole to take additional anode at the back near the prop out poured loads of water which had been lurking in the double skin!!

My thinking also is that having stanchion bases fail could be serious.

Boatwright got new sockets from Mike Lucas and he explained to Mike how use of deep drill bit got around the problem that previously people had with trying to chip them out. I see Mike is now offering similar solution!

I was concerned at the price of the new stanchion bases so took one to local engineering works to cost time/materials. Came to the conclusion that Mike's quoted price at the time was indeed reasonable considering the engineering required.

If you are Solent etc based then I would recommend contacting Tony Preston Yacht Services (no connection other than satisfied customer) as I know he has now done similar job on quite a few Sadlers now.
