My thoughts too. 12 pax is a big rib - certainly bigger than the average pleasure craft.absolute tragedy
Pure speculation......12 person rib......commercial??
Certainly not flat out there today, awful for everyone involved.

Wasn’t you doing a coat overboard drill just off the hamble today was it?
Nope. We went down towards hamble about 13.00 was lively.. headed back to ov for some food and a drink.
7 gusting 8 at calshot. 6 gusting 7 at dock head. good to get out in some weather but wasn’t going to take a risk that would have upset anyone..
I believe the video was taken about 1010 this morn.
I suspect the lady who shot it is now in shock knowing what happened.
As I said I was not there but it appeared to be reasonable flat before contact.
But we all know film can flatten the water.
This follows another fatal accident on the Norfolk Broads a few days ago.
I have often thought that the broads are full of potential fatal incidents.
There should be at least some training prior to prople being permitted to hire boats. At the moment most hire companies just had over the keys with a "this is how it starts and stops and makes it go forward and backwards" briefing
Many of the folk hiring boats have NEVER been in command on the water and have no idea of what is required.
Any accidents such as this one or the one on the river Bure at Yarmouth are a tragedy for those involved. The Broads one involved a hire craft apparently trying to turn in a fast ebbing stretch of the river, this may have been an inexperienced helmsman, however few hire boats venture down there unless they know what they are doing as it needs special attention. This follows another fatal accident on the Norfolk Broads a few days ago.

Much like the RIB accident at the same spot some years ago, at the end of Cowes fireworks display.
