Thought that people might be interested to share the sad sight of a classic wooden boat that has run aground on the beach about 1/2 mile west of the Sportsman in Seasalter. I imagine that she broke her mooring at Harty Ferry and was blown across the flats on a a south-westerly. North -easterly is forecast in coming days and given her position I fear for her safety.

Forgive me for my errors - it's a long time since I last posted.

It looks as though she might have an anchor out. There isn’t one at the stem head, and a long line of chain is across the sand. She also has a line to one of the posts, so someone must have taken some action, the scuffing to the planks suggests she has been lying on her port side as well.

Any update on this? Can't get over there, flu in the house. I don't recognise the boat as being from Harty. The spot is not far from Seasalter SC so I feel sure that all the right people are aware.

In response to Cantata’s request I went back yesterday to see what had happened to the stranded boat over the weekend. As you can see from the pictures attached the strong North-Easterlys have driven her further up the beach almost as far as the high tide line. She is now firmly neaped and there would seem to be no prospect of moving her until the Spring Tides at the end of the month.
I’ve also been asking around to find out about her. Oriole was based at Medway CC for some years but was purchased a month or two ago. It seems that the intention was to sail her to Southampton but in the event she only got as far as Harty Ferry where she was left moored for some weeks. She broke free from her mooring last week and was left stranded on the beach as the first set of pics showed. The latest pictures show that the starboard davit has also been wrenched from its base and the resulting hole may have caused her to take on water during the storm.
