Well, still not viewed it yet, no point until all the paper trail is sorted. The story so far:-.

For financial reasons the boat will have to be part 1. registered. The British Ships Registry have had a copy of the original Bill of Sale and German Registration Certificate. The have said that an application can only be considered with translated documents and a translated transcript from the German Registry.

Bill of Sale doc. Has been translated, and will be sent to them tomorrow, but the Broker spoke to the German Registry today, an organisation called the A.D.A.C. Apparently there are 2 or 3 registries in Germany, the ADAC being one of them. They said to the Broker that they don’t hold any other information other than what is on the certificate. So what is this transcript that the British Ship’s Register wants ?.

I assume they want to know if any legal charges have been lodged. The ADAC suggested that the German owner declares via a solicitor that no finance is owed on the boat.

Does anyone on the forum have any experience in deregistering a foreign owned boat and putting it on the UK register.

Rob

If you need registration for a mortgage, the finance company may accept a British registration in Guernsey and the requirements for Guernsey registration are much less onerous. My own boat was German owned and getting Guernsey registration was not a problem. In my case, the registration was handled by South Coast Registrations (01489 570571) but its worth speaking to the finance company to discuss what they actually need
