Does anyone with a KAD32 powered Sealine S23 know what props they are running with?

We currently have two sets of aluminium props but one set is getting to the stage of not having many refurbs left in it. The serial numbers on them are illegible so we cant get them that way.

Not on an S23 but same engine on 25ft Bayliner and using A5 ali or C4 Stainless. Probably not a lot of help, but a starting point if no one else chips in.

I have a similar boat to yours, a Sealine S24 and my Alu duoprops are A6 fitted to a DPE Drive and AD31 engine (same as the KAD but less HP/Compressor). So I think yours will be the same. Yesterday while doing a search on Props I did come across a several websites that show you the Prop scale to knots (Volvo paper).

Be careful with this. The AD31 drive ratio is 2.3:1 wheras the KAD32 is 1.95:1

You should probably speak to Sealine if no other owner with the exact same combo comes up with the answer.

Hi Rachel,

The standard props fitted from factory are A4's

Yep A4s on my S23.

However if you have 2 pairs I recommend you get your worst repaired. We use steel Developments in London- it is amazing how much damage can be repaired

Hi all,

thanks for the replies. We dug the build sheet out last night (should maybe have been the first port of call) from the acres of paperwork we have and can confirm that they are or should be A4's.

Elza-skip, we have two sets both of which are now repaired and made good, however one of the sets has been repaired many many times and will certainly need replacing at some point soon. We moor on an inland river so the props are prone to damage, you just cant keep repairing them forever.

Thanks again for all of your replies.

Sealine S23 A1 or A4 prop set?

I have the same boat, 2004 S23 in the med which has A1 props fitted, below is an extract from my survey report last summer when I bought my boat. I have a guy who looks after down there and he also looks after an identical boat with A4 props which he says is faster on top end but slower getting there. My boat is quick up onto plane but 25 knots flat out. Hope this is interesting to you. My boat had had new prop set fitted, the A1, previous owner is sure thats what was on it before though.

Sea trial extract below from survey:
A speed of 21.3 knots (on the GPS) was achieved at 3800 RPM. The sea was too rough to trim the stern drive out more and get the boat to perform. The web site for Sealine suggests a speed of approximately 30 knots likely in calmer conditions, but not achieved on trials.

I was not happy with this performance and more research has produced the following points of interest (see attached documents additional to the survey):
Invoice for stern drive is for propeller set 854764 (Volvo Part Number for
A1 Propellers)
These propellers (see chart) should give an approx. speed of between 16 to 19 knots. We were achieving 21.3.
Information obtained direct from Sealine for the S25 (to all intents and purposes the same boat) shows propeller selection A4 (Volvo Part Number 854767 for the set) or (854777 anticlockwise rotation and 854787 clockwise rotation) high-lighted in yellow. Thus if the propellers were change to A4 (the standard set of props) a higher speed would be achieved but slower acceleration. At present the vessel accelerates very well but no top end performance. This assumes the gear ratio has not been changed, but that is an unlikely possibility.

I've heard of people dropping a prop size - say from A4 to A3 so they can pull full revs from the engine(s) to take account of slightly different density of the sea in the med (I've yet to be convinced about that - there are other reasons why an engine won't pull full revs). However to go down 3 sizes, the previous owner must have wanted better acceleration, perhaps for water skiing.

Thats interesting as a friend of ours who has an S23 is down on top end speed but also on acceleration. We suspected the wrong props.

Have checked our spare set and they are A4's, the set that are on look identical but the stamping has worn off.
